I tried to get this strain (Malabar) to propagate on grain spawn two times, and both times it failed. (Note – I also tried another strain concurrently, and the other strain lived and developed without a problem.)
I was advised by PlanetSpores not to manipulate the sterilized grain spawn in the bag, and it should remain tightly packed during inoculation. I was not aware of this, so if you are having issues with the initial growth, this could be one of the reasons.
PlanetSpores replaced the spore syringe and sterilized spawn twice, and they have now given me a coupon code for another free syringe if I make a purchase.
This company is definitely trying to help me succeed. The customer service has been very good, as well!
