Albino Penis Envy (APE) is a rare and highly regarded variety of Psilocybe cubensis that is believed to have originated as an albino mutation of the famous Penis Envy strain. The original Penis Envy genetics became widely known through work associated with ethnomycologist Terence McKenna and were later selectively stabilized by mycologist Steven Pollock. Over time, cultivators isolated the albino mutation and refined it through careful selective breeding, creating the stable Albino Penis Envy variety that has become one of the most recognized and sought-after strains in the mushroom cultivation community.

Albino Penis Envy is instantly recognizable for its ghostly white to pale cream coloration, thick, dense stems, and small, underdeveloped caps that rarely open fully. Like the original Penis Envy strain, its distinctive shape closely resembles the male anatomy, giving the variety its memorable name. APE is also known for producing little to no dark spores, making spore prints uncommon. The strain grows more slowly than many other P. cubensis varieties and is considered moderately difficult to cultivate, but it is prized by experienced growers for its dense, meaty fruiting bodies, unique appearance, and reputation for exceptional potency.
